Fall love

It's officially Fall, which is my favorite season. Last night, my husband and I had a fall party, and I wanted to make something new and special for the get-together. As I am sure you've noticed, bunting is a popular trend this year. I decided to try my hand at making it. For the tutorial I used, please look here. I followed the tutorial for the most part, but I sewed my small triangles onto the burlap instead of gluing it. I used fabric I already had from a quilt-in-progress, and I bought the ribbon for the top edge. Total cost was $3.50.  Here is the finished product:

I've begun to enjoy sitting on our large covered porch this time of year, with a warm drink in my hand.  And I have also learned how to make pumpkin spice lattes at home this season, with ingredients I already have. I got the recipe from this blog. I always add a bit of sugar, as suggested. So far, the lattes have bee a crowd-pleaser!

The simple things

Hello,

It's been a wonderful and productive weekend here in our home. But more on that later.... Today we are focusing on small details that make a difference in a home. Since my husband and I are newly married and pretty young, we run on a tight budget. I tend to use Goodwill and the dollar store as staples in our decor. Here are a few projects that I've worked on lately.

1.

This Spring, I saw tall vases full of flowers at Target and decided I wanted hat look. But I was not willing to pay the price they were asking for that look (about $30). So last month, when my husband found this vase at Goodwill, I was thrilled. Since we went on the 1st Saturday of the month, the vase was only $5. I bought the grasses, flowers, and stones at the local dollar store. I spent about $7 on these items, for a total cost of $12 for this arrangement next to our fireplace.

2.

I am a candle lover, so candles are used throughout our home to add a bit of warmth and color. We were given this brown charger from my aunt for Christmas this past year, complete with a set of metallic candles. It looked great, but I burned the candles as long as possible, and now they are burned out. So I bought three vanilla scented candles and some more stones from the dollar store and a colored pillar from Marshall's ($4). Total cost for this piece: $8.

Have a wonderful week!

Welcome to Lincoln Street

Hello,

My husband and I have been married for about one year now. We love our community and we are interested in doing some community development work here in the Midwest. We have a support system of loving friends nearby, and our families are not too far away. For those reasons and many more, this past June, we bought a home. We were able to get the house for a reduced price, which made this recently remodeled home affordable for us. Our home is historical; it was built in 1910. And the previous owners revamped it with new wiring, a new roof, new plumbing, new flooring, and new appliances. We are so pleased! I am thankful for the blessing of being able to own a home that we can spend time decorating and enjoying instead of making major repairs, which is often the case with older homes.
Here is a sneak peek at our home. It's still a work in progress for me, but I am loving every minute of it. Welcome to our home!
